Pictured: Man wanted after Birmingham bookies robbed

Police want to trace a man suspected of robbing a Birmingham bookies before boarding a train to Wolverhampton.

CCTV images of the suspect at Birmingham New Street station have been released by West Midlands Police.

Detectives launched an inquiry after a man walked into William Hill's on Fore Street just as the cashier was opening up at 8am on Tuesday December 30.

The robber, who is in his late 20s or early 30s, forced the staff member into the rear offices and demanded cash from the tills.

He grabbed the morning's float, amounting to several hundred pounds, before fleeing to New Street where he got on a train to Wolverhampton.

Dc Mark Timmins, from Birmingham Central police station, urged anyone who recognises the suspect to come forward.

He said: "The CCTV captured our main suspect as he entered the barriers at New Street and he then got onto a local Wolverhampton-bound train.

"We want to speak to anyone who knows him, or has information, to contact us as soon as possible.

"Thankfully the staff were unharmed but were shaken by what happened."

The offender is described as black, in his late 20s to early 30s, 5ft 7in of broad build and he wore a black woolly hat and jacket.
