Biker seriously injured in crash on A5 near landmark pub

A motorcyclist has been seriously injured after coming off his bike on a busy main road in Staffordshire.

The crash happened near landmark pub The Bradford Arms in Ivetsey Bank, near Wheaton Aston last night.

The 18-year-old rider, from Great Wyrley, was taken to The Royal Stoke University Hospital with serious head, leg and pelvic injuries where his condition is stable.

Police said his blue Yamaha motorbike collided with a silver Ford S-Max at the junction of the A5 and Ivetsey Road at about 9.10pm.

The driver of the car, a 34-year-old man from Stoke on Trent, has been reported for driving offences.

The A5 was closed at the junction of School Lane for a short time while paramedics gave emergency treatment to the motorcyclist at the scene before transferring him to hospital.

A girl who was a passenger in the car was treated for minor injuries before being taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton for further treatment.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them on police on 101 quoting reference 648 of 14 January.
