Business and state officials from China were meeting with Sandwell Council leader Darren Cooper and Black Country Chamber of Commerce chiefs who were promoting the area's business prospects as well as major developments that are in the pipeline.

They are aiming to show the officials from the Pengzhou region there are plenty of reasons to invest and do business in Sandwell.

Business leaders showcased Sandwell's 'excellent transport links' and recent developments such as the regeneration of West Bromwich town centre, new leisure centres and the £370 million Midland Metropolitan Hospital which is expected to be built by 2019.

Mr Cooper said the initial meeting was about 'opening dialogue' and further developments could be expected as the relationship progresses.

He said: "The arrival of the Chinese to Sandwell confirms our growing reputation as a place to do business for international businesses.

"We have a proud history in terms of manufacturing and the region they are coming from also has tremendous manufacturing businesses."
