Walsall driver dies after suffering cardiac arrest at wheel and colliding with another vehicle

A driver who suffered a cardiac arrest at the wheel and collided with another vehicle and a wall in Walsall has died.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, appeared to fall ill at the wheel of the Nissan Serena in Vicarage Place, Caldmore, at around 1.40pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Steve Parry said: "Crews attended a driver who appears to have collapsed at the wheel of his car and collided with a second vehicle.

"Crews found the patient to be in cardiac arrest on arrival and commenced immediate resuscitation before he was conveyed to the nearby Walsall Manor Hospital.

"Sadly, it is understood the patient later died in hospital."

A woman travelling in the second car involved was assessed at the scene and later discharged.
