Appeal after women fend off would-be robber at cash machine

Two women fended off a man who attempted to snatch money from them at a cash machine in Stafford.

The 50-year-old victim and her 28-year-old niece were threatened by the robber who approached them from the direction of the Rising Brook Baptist Church.

But they refused to hand over the cash at 9pm on Saturday outside the post office in Burton Square. He then ran off.

Both women were uninjured, police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted robbery. The suspect is described as an Asian man aged between 20 and 30, 5ft 6ins to 5ft 9ins tall and medium build.

He wore a black and grey striped hooded zip-up top with jogging bottoms and black trainers with white around the soles.
