This motorist failed to properly defrost their windscreen, and as a result drove into a parked van and then hit a tree in Vicarage Road, Coseley, this morning.

Not only do people drive without defrosting or demisting their windscreens, 38 per cent of drivers in the Midlands admit to struggling to read road signs, research released today by the College of Optometrists found. The study also suggested that 11pc of people in the Midlands have never had an eye exam.

Francesca Marchetti, optometrist and council member of the College of Optometrists, commented: "Driving with poor vision is extremely dangerous – not only are you putting yourself in danger but also other drivers and pedestrians."
