Landmark Wolves pub The Wanderer flattened as demolition is completed

The demolition of the famous Wanderer pub has now been completed ahead of its redevelopment into a car park.

The Wanderer, an early 20th century building on Molineux Street, had long been a regular stop for fans going to Wolves games before it was brought by the club, who will use the space created for a car park.

It has taken Tipton-based Humphries Demolition just over a week to flatten the area.

The pub, which sat in the shadow of the Molineux stadium, closed last year and was sold to what was originally a mystery buyer.

Previously called The Fox, it was a popular spot for Wolves fans but a lack of trade other than on match days is understood to have led to its closure.

It later emerged that Wolves had purchased the building from Enterprise Inns, with the club wanting to create more match day parking around the ground.

It is hoped that turning the pub site into a car park could help alleviate traffic problems around the ground.

Wolves have previously said they want to bring the site back into use and develop the land similarly to Peel House, which was knocked down in 2010 and turned into car parking for around 140 vehicles.

Fans who opposed the pubs demolition tried to make their voices heard by signing an online petition called 'Save The Wanderer'.

Over 2,400 people signed the petition, which read "It is a tragedy to lose part of the Wolves' heritage and get a car park instead" - however it was not handed over to the Wolverhampton Council planning department.

Other pubs with Wolves connections are also at risk. Lounge 107, formerly The Goal Post, could be knocked down and replaced with as ASDA petrol station, while planning permission has been granted for The Kings Arms, in Dudley Road, Blakenhall, to be turned into shops. The latter pub served as the club's headquarters in the 19th century.

The Feathers is also set to be transformed by Wolverhampton University into leisure facilities.
