Mr Hunt was discovered by passers-by on a footpath in Western Springs Road, Rugeley, earlier this month.

Police arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the incident and he has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Hunt's old school friend Josh Dunning has now set up a Facebook page where people have been leaving tributes and also a fundraising website.

The money will help pay for a special memorial at the home of Wolves, Molineux as Mr Hunt was a huge fan. Some of the cash will also be spent on an ornament that will be placed on his grave and the rest will be handed over to Mr Hunt's family.

Mr Dunning, who attended Cardinal Griffin High School in Cannock with Mr Hunt, who was just 22, said: "I started the Facebook page to get everyone together in one place and then I set up the fundraising page.

"We wanted to pay for some sort of tribute to Joe at Wolves and also to buy something to put on his grave.

"In a day and a half we managed to raise £2,500.

"We're also asking people to email us their memories and any pictures of Joe and we will give it to the family."

Staffordshire Police is still investigating the crash.

A Skoda Fabia was recovered from near to where Mr Hunt died and it was taken away for a detailed forensic examination.

After his death, relatives paid tribute to Mr Hunt saying he was a much-loved son and brother, who was known by many people and loved by all.

He was discovered with serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scores of tributes have been left on the Go Get Funding page.

Maddie Price wrote: "Joe you will be missed by many, its lovely to see how many friends you have getting together to remember the good times. Rest in Peace."
