Man, 81, dies after two-car crash in Staffordshire

An 81-year-old man has died following a two car smash in Staffordshire.

A blue Volkswagen Polo and a white Ford Mondeo collided at the junction of Greenheath Road and High Mount Street, Hednesford, just before 12.50pm yesterday.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the driver of the Polo who had suffered a cardiac arrest died on arrival at hospital.

He has been formally identified as Gilbert Allen, of Hednesford, and specially trained officers are offering his family support.

No one else was injured.

The road remained closed for two hours while specialist officers carried out investigations at the scene.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses.
