50 jobs created on JLR Wolverhampton plant contract

A company that specialises in maintaining major industrial sites is creating 50 jobs after winning the contract to look after Jaguar Land Rover's new £500 million engine manufacturing centre near Wolverhampton.

Voith Industrial Services, a leading service provider to the UK automotive industry which has its head office in Warwick, won the facilities management contract in a competitive tender.

The work includes cleaning, waste removal, grounds maintenance, landscaping, and winter services for the site at the i54 business park,which was officially opened by HM The Queen on October 30.

It also includes the maintenance of all facility equipment such as boilers, heating and ventilation systems, and water treatment, as well as the disposal of items such as metal scrap and swarf to the factory gate.

Voith Industrial Services is progressively taking over facilities management at the new plant during the rest of the year as more services come on line. Full production at the plant is planned to start in January 2015.

"This new contract with Jaguar Land Rover underlines Voith's credentials in the UK automotive sector where recent contracts have been announced at Vauxhall Motors in Luton and Peugeot Citroen Automobiles Ltd. in Coventry."

He added that the latest contract was further evidence of Voith's growing range of specialist technical services it can offer to the UK automotive industry. Over the years Voith had progressed from a company providing basic cleaning services to one that now provides specialist technical expertise in many areas.

In the UK Voith Industrial Services employs 2,400 people – mainly at customer sites across the country. The company has an increasing sales turnover and provides services in four main areas – facility management, technical cleaning, wheel and tyre assembly, and managed processes.

The 775,000 sq ft JLR plant currently employs between 300 and 400 but that is expected to rise to 6000 by the time the factory gets into full production of diesel engines.

When a petrol engine assembly hall is added as well the number employed will reach 1,400.
