The proposal by AB Waste Management Ltd, for the works in Willenhall Lane near Dudley Fields and Beechdale was rejected because of fears over noise, dust and smell.

Bloxwich West councillors Louise Harrison, and Pattie Lane, and Birchills Leamore's Tina Jukes supported the campaign.

Councillor Jukes said: "I welcome this decision. The council listened to local people, councillors and myself and after proper investigation decided those fears to be well founded. This proposal if passed would have had a major detrimental effect on the local community."

Councillor Lane added that the decision has come as a great relief to people living in the Dudley Fields area close to the proposed site.

"Early this year I and others organised a public meeting where it was clear that local residents didn't want this waste site near their homes. Thankfully, Walsall council listened and acted," Councillor Lane said.

AB Waste, formerly based in Cemetery Road, Darlaston, had hoped to relocate to the Willenhall Road Industrial Estate.
