Eighteen homes will be built where the Hill Top Resource Centre once stood after planning permission was granted by Sandwell Council. The eyesore centre, which is on Peters Street, Hill Top, was closed in February 2007 when it was deemed surplus to requirements.

It was later demolished by Sandwell Council. Since then the site has been lying empty.

Ray Walbancke has unveiled plans for new two, three and four-bedroom homes aimed at improving the appearance of the site.

The development is part of a wider housing scheme involving 21 separate parcels of land.

Nearby residents and businesses raised no objections to the scheme during a consultation.

Planning officer Douglas Eardley said: "I consider that the applicant is proposing a high quality and sustainable development that accords with national and local policies, has a positive impact on the character of the area, and would not detract from the amenities of neighbouring properties."
