A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with cuts and bruising following the attack in Birmingham - which is believed to have been unprovoked.

Police have released CCTV footage of the suspect ? a mixed-race man wearing a flat cap, a dark double-breasted jacket and baggy trousers ? who is seen walking in Ladywell Walk near Birmingham Hippodrome at around the time of the attack just after midnight on Saturday, September 27.

DC Guy Whitfield, from Birmingham's Violent Crime investigation team, said: "The CCTV footage is very grainy and we appreciate this is not of the best quality but we felt that the description was so unusual that someone would be able to recognise the man and come forward with a name.

The Peaky Blinders were a Birmingham criminal gang from the 1900s who were known for their deadly flat caps which were believed to have razor blades stitched into the lining.

Anyone with information should call the police on 101, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
