WATCH: Police officer blinded after being shot in the eye just wants to get back on the beat

The police sergeant who was blinded in one eye after being shot while detaining a man has released the second instalment of his video diary in which he discusses the next stage of his recovery - a prosthetic eye.

Sgt Jon King was injured while protecting the public after being called with colleagues to a property on Wat Tyler Close in Rugeley.

After a six hour stand-off he was shot in the right eye with a rubber bullet.

Sgt King explains to viewers the options he has, but conceeds he will never be able to see out of his right eye again.

He goes on to say that he wants the operation to be over as quickly as possible so that he can get back to normal and back to work.

A 34-year-old man was detained at the scene after the shooting under the mental health act.
