A jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court came back after fours hours of deliberation to deliver the unanimous verdict.

During the trial the court heard how Gary Griffiths poured petrol through the letterbox of Tracey Powell's home in Bloxwich Road, Walsall after she rejected his attempts to win her back with flowers and a card the previous day.

The 44-year-old of Proffitt Close, Brownhills, repeatedly told the trial he couldn't remember what happened in the early hours of March 4 this year.

Griffiths previously admitted a charge of arson being reckless as to whether life is endangered.

He will be sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court the week starting December 8.
