Where to watch fireworks: Interactive map

Fireworks will light up the sky this weekend as Bonfire Night celebrations boom, bang and sparkle across the region.

In Wolverhampton, the two main events will also feature a nod to Remembrance Day with a spectacular poppy display.

The city's celebrations kick off on Friday at Bilston's Hickman Park, with round two on at West Park the following night with thousands expected at both.

Crowds will be reminded of the anniversary when a 'Tommy' takes to the stage in full infantry uniform while the Last Post is sounded.

Following a minute's silence, crowds will be wowed by a spectacular poppy firework display honouring all those who lost their lives in the Great War and other conflicts.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's leisure chief, said of the events: "Our bonfire events are always very popular and this year we hope to see hundreds of families turn up to enjoy a spectacular display."

"They are great fun for all the family, with fabulous music and fantastic fairground attractions.

"We are expecting big crowds at both Hickman Park and West Park so we'd advise people to get there early to claim their spot.

"We will also use both events to mark the centenary of the First World War with a minute's silence and a remarkable poppy display."

On Sunday, more than 1,000 acres of Weston Park will be illuminated during two displays.

And, in Walsall displays will light up the skies at the Brownhills bonfire night celebrations at Holland Park on Saturday.

After warming up this weekend, the celebrations continue throughout the week, with another full fireworks calendar next weekend.

Wednesbury marks Guy Fawkes' November 5 failure at Brunswick Park on Bonfire Night itself.

And on Friday, November 7, it is Dartmouth Park in West Bromwich and Victoria Park in Smethwick's time to shine.

Willenhall Memorial Park will host its event on Saturday, November 8, while also on Saturday, the gates will open over at Dudley's Himley Park at 4.30pm for the annual bonfire celebrations. The event is said to be the largest local authority fireworks display in the country.

Dudley Council's environment and culture boss, Councillor Hilary Bills, said: "We're very excited about this year's fireworks show, which promises to bigger and better than ever before."

West Midlands Safari Park's annual Firework Festival is a two-day event, with love-themed displays on Saturday November 8 and Sunday November 9.

Firework displays will be set to music, including Phil Collins' Easy Lover, and Led Zeppelin's timeless classic Whole Lotta Love.

The eight metre high bonfires will be lit at 5:30pm.
