Man killed after being hit by 'several vehicles' on M6 is named

A man killed when he was struck by several vehicles on the M6 was today named by police.

Alan John Bird was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by several vehicles on the southbound carriageway.

The 41-year-old lived in Wheatcroft Close, Penkridge.

The incident happened between junction 13 for Stafford and junction 12 for Gailey on Monday evening at 7.20pm.

The motorway remained closed for four hours.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone who saw the man prior to, or anyone who witnessed the incident, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 705 of 27 October.
