Sofaworks has also confirmed it will join Cannock Gateway Retail Park based at the Churchbridge interchange.

Work has now started to clear the site ready for the multi-million pound development which is based close to the A460, A5 and junction 7 of the M6 Toll.

The development is expected to create 120 full and part time jobs when it opens in June 2015.

Richard Norgrove, property director for the site developers, Hortons' Estate Developments Ltd said ground works on the 5.8 acre site have begun and residents will see building developments before Christmas.

He said: "It is an exciting development for the area and the two restaurant will be in a prominent site for drivers."

The new Burger King will include a drive-thru and will be the first in the Cannock area while Costa Coffee already has a coffee shop in the town centre.

Sofaworks say their store will create 20 new jobs and the brand will begin recruiting in the new year.

The joint venture by Trebor Developments LLP and Hortons' Estate Limited has been welcomed by local councillors.

Cannock South Councillor Maureen Freeman said: "It is another great opportunity for the area and to provide further employment. That is excellent news."

Councillor John Kraujalis agreed and said: "I am very pleased that developments are coming to Cannock. It sends the signal that we are heading in the right direction and that big brands want to come to the area.

"I will be interested to see the Costa Coffee drive thru but I would have preferred to see a bistro or Italian restaurant in the area, something with a little bit of character. We need variety not just a variety of fast food outlets but the creation of jobs is the most important thing."

Concerns have been raised, however, about the impact retail parks will have on the town centre. Councillor Paul Witton said: "I don't have a direct objection to this but feel that something needs to be done in Cannock town centre, it is becoming a ghost town."
