The 23-year-old victim and her partner woke up in the middle of the night to find stranger Robert Deakin lying on their bed. He told the terrified women he had come to collect £20 owed to someone.

When they shouted to him to get out, he did - leaving behind some clothes and a pair of trainers.

The women rang the police and after a search of the area, Deakin, 20, of Hornbeam Crescent, Cannock, was arrested.

At Stafford Crown Court, he admitted an offence of sexual assault and was sent to a Young Offenders Institute for 28 months.

Recorder Mr Mark Wall QC told him: "Your offence is the stuff nightmares are made of.

"Imagine if someone had done to your mother or sister what you did that night and you'll understand why this is such a serious offence.

"The women whose sleep you disturbed have been significantly traumatised."

Mr Robert Price, prosecuting, said Deakin got into the house during the night of March 15 via an unlocked back door.

The victim's impact statement said that she is still unable to sleep.

"I haven't had a nap without having nightmares. Just the thought of him being in our bed makes my skin crawl, let alone what he did to me," she stated.

In his police interview, Deakin said it was a combination of vodka and cannabis which led up to the offence.

He couldn't recall going in to the house and he did not know either of the women.

Mr Harpreet Sandhu, defending, said: "He has been so shocked by his actions he hasn't since the commission of this offence, stepped outside his door."
