Autumn reveals its true colours at last

The splendour of autumn was at its magical best when skilful snappers with an eye for a picture took these stunning images at Walsall Arboretum.

The beautiful Victorian park is currently bursting with golds and reds, copper and orange, warm yellows and crisp browns as the unseasonal warm weather has delayed autumn's traditional September display by a month.

Civil servant Steve Kendrick is lucky enough to live right beside the park and regularly captures its lakes, gardens and woodland walks on his camera.

The 42-year-old took up photography as a hobby five years ago and only recently started borrowing his father's Canon single lens reflex camera to take pictures.

Perhaps his most dazzling shot, however – of sunlit flowers looking across to the arboretum clock tower – was taken on his iPhone.

The father-of-one said: "I've got that picture hanging on my wall, I love it. I had to lie on the ground to get the angle but the part I enjoy most is the editing, the way you can enhance the images with new technology.

"I love the arboretum. I grew up in Walsall and it's got a lot of good memories for me. Nowadays I can take fantastic sunset pictures from my balcony, without even leaving home."

Steve's picture of Hoars Brook was taken on the Canon.
