Police launched a murder investigation after a body was found in Treynham Close, Stow Heath Green, late on Saturday night.

Mr Price, aged 21, was pronounced dead at the scene and a post mortem examination confirmed he died from a fatal stab injury.

He lived with his girlfriend and their one year old child in Winston Churchill Court, Park View Road, just 200 yards away from where he was killed.

His devastated girlfriend, Megan Campbell, said: "I loved Josh loads, we have been together for four years. He was a great father and partner and will be deeply missed."

One of his neighbours, Danielle Hayward, aged 20, said: "I saw him leave his flat on Saturday night and then a little while later I heard he was dead. All of a sudden you heard sirens and there was police everywhere.

"He was a lovely lad, really friendly and kind. It just doesn't feel real at the moment. He was a family man, devoted to his girlfriend and their child. He wasn't the type to go out looking for trouble. I just hope the police catch whoever has done this."

The street remained cordoned off yesterday while police continued to canvas the area and interview residents and passers by. Forensic investigators removed a number of items from the scene for examination.

Officers are also carrying out an extensive trawl of CCTV cameras.

Detective Inspector Warren Hines is leading a CID team dedicated to tracking down whoever is responsible.

He said: "We have a team of officers assigned solely to this case and they are working shifts around the clock to get to the bottom of what happened and apprehend whoever's responsible. We will be doing all we can to get justice for the man's loved ones."

He added that police have now traced a man who went to the victim's aid in the aftermath of the incident.

Bouquets of flowers were left in front of a tree at the scene, one of them bearing the message: "RIP bro. I love U'.
