The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, was charged late last night and was set to appear at Sandwell Youth Court this morning.

Victim Glynis Bensley was found on Cheshire Road just before 11.50pm last Wednesday. She was pronounced dead by medical staff at the scene.

A post mortem examination carried out on Friday confirmed the 47-year-old, who lived locally, died as a result of a head injury.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested at an address in the area last Thursday afternoon. He was released the following day and remains on conditional bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Ridding, who is leading the murder inquiry, said: "We are working through all of the information we have received to date to determine Glynis' last movements and what led to her tragic death.

"Our thoughts remain with Glynis' family and friends who are obviously devastated by what has happened and specially trained officers are working with them at this time.

"We continue to appeal to anyone who was in the Cheshire Road area last Wednesday night to contact us on either 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
