Two police officers were injured in the smash following a pursuit on Saturday.

Mark Abraham, from Warden, Kent, aged 23, was arrested by police and has now been charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously, criminal damage to property over £5,000, assaulting a constable, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He appeared at Cannock Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody to appear at Stafford Crown Court next month.

Supt Paul Keasey, head of CMPG, said today: "This type of event is thankfully rare. Officers from CMPG bravely and selflessly put their lives at risk to protect the public from harm.

"Thankfully the pursuit ended without anyone sustaining serious injuries but it could have had a very different outcome due to the speeds of the vehicles involved.

"I would like to thank members of the public for their patience whilst the road was closed and the incident was investigated by colleagues from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit."

The M6 Toll was closed southbound between junctions T8 for Wedges Mills and T6 for Brownhills for about five hours after the smash at 10am on Saturday.
