Racing pigeon van bursts into flames

A fire in a van used to carry racing pigeons triggered delays near the M6 in the Black Country today.

There were fears the vehicle, which was near the northbound exit slip road at Junction 10 for Walsall, had been transporting racing pigeons.

But when fire crews arrived at around 1.30pm they found the lorry just contained empty boxes so no birds were harmed.

No pigeons were in the vehicle at the time

The slip road has been closed while firefighters extinguished the blaze, causing delays for motorists.

It comes after fire crews rescued 2,000 racing pigeons from a lorry fire on forecourt of a Sainsbury's filling station in Foleshill, Coventry last night.
