The bank in High Street, Brownhills, is to shut on October 24 forcing customers to travel miles to the nearest branch.

The company said the four staff at Brownhills have been consulted and will be given an opportunity to work at another site.

Once the Barclays closes people in the town face having to use Aldridge, Chase Terrace or Bloxwich as their closest branch.

Barclays said the closure decision is due to a drop in users and an increase in online transactions.

They added that more than half of the people in Brownhills now use other branches.

The move has been criticised amid claims it will make banking more difficult for customers, especially the elderly.
