The two men fell about 6ft at the historic former factory site in Paul Street,by Ring Road St Johns.

Joist hangers supporting part of the first storey gave way at around 1pm yesterday.

The men were taken to New Cross hospital suffering from minor injuries.

Developer Liam Wordley said: "Both lads fell through a bit of the floor. One had a gash on the leg and the other hit his head.

"We are doing a massive renovation and have loads of specially designed joists and unfortunately a couple of them failed and it ended up with part of the floor being like a bit of a ski slope."

The former motorcycle factory will be turned into 111 homes, with 30 of them set aside to provide supported housing for people with learning disabilities and the remaining 81 to rent on the open market.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the workers were taken to A&E at New Cross hospital with minor injuries. Fire crews were also called to the scene but not needed.
