Man killed in Walsall house fire is named

A man who died in a fire at his home in Walsall has been named locally as Roger Still.

The 63-year-old was confirmed dead in Brackendale Drive inYew Tree.

Mr Still was wheelchair-bound and is believed to have lived on his own for around 18 months.

Thick black smoke could be seen coming from the property as firefighters, paramedics and police were called to the scene on Sunday.

Residents living near to the address said carers visited Mr Still's home daily, but he could also be seen travelling down the street in his motorised wheelchair.

The investigation into his death is being referred to the Black Country coroner.

The fire is believed to have been started by a discarded cigarette.
