Former mayor in court over 17 child sex offence charges

A former mayor has appeared in court to face 17 sex offences charges.

Ian Lewin, aged 56, is charged with 15 counts of possessing indecent photos of a child, one count of an adult attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming and one count of attempting to cause or incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity.

Lewin, a former mayor of Fazeley, in Staffordshire, yesterday appeared at Burton Magistrates Court.

Lewin now of Campion Close, in Yew Tree, on the Walsall-Sandwell border entered no pleas at the hearing.

The case was committed for trial at Stafford Crown Court in October. He was granted unconditional bail until then.

He was twice Mayor of Fazeley near Tamworth in 2005 and 2011.
