Sixty-five properties owned by the local authority - will be built in Chadsmoor, bosses decided at a meeting last night.

It will be part of a wider scheme which will see 141 properties built in total.

They will replace 170 outdated flats on the Moss Road Estate that will be demolished to make way for the new development.

At a cabinet meeting where the move was approved, Cannock Council leader George Adamson added: "It's an exciting scheme and it was one of the first things we announced when we took over this council. It's long overdue."

Housebuilder Keepmoat Homes will build the new properties and work is due to start later in the year.

Out of the 65 council houses, 30 will have two bedrooms, 27 will have three bedrooms and eight will have four bedrooms.

The last council houses in Cannock Chase were built in 1987.
