Walsall golf pro Guy Dean admits having indecent images of children

A golf professional has admitted to possessing more than 2,800 indecent images of children and extreme pornography.

Guy Dean, who has worked at golf clubs in Penn, Rowley Regis, West Bromwich, Pelsall and Cannock during his career, appeared at Stafford Crown Court yesterday.

The 44-year-old of Pelsall Lane, Bloxwich, admitted seven charges of making indecent images of a child and two of possessing extreme pornographic images between June 2011 and April last year.

Dean, dressed in a suit, blue shirt and tie, also pleaded guilty to possessing three images of extreme pornography and five images pornographic imges involving animals.

The haul included more than 2,800 images and one video.

Miss Catherine O'Reilly, defending Dean, told the court a psychiatric report on her client was being prepared.

Judge Mark Eades adjourned the case for reports and Dean was released on conditional bail. He will be sentenced at a date yet to be fixed.

Dean started his professional career at Beaudesert Golf Club in Rugeley Road, Cannock, in 1986.

In 1996 he joined ranks with European Seniors Tour player Jim Rhodes at South Staffordshire Golf Club.

He was also head professional at Dartmouth Golf Club, West Bromwich, before he spent five years as head professional at Dudley Golf Club, Rowley Regis, in 2000.

In 2005 Mr Dean became head professional at Penn Golf Club in Wolverhampton, which he left with immediate effect in April 2013 after tendering a resignation.
