'Industrial scale' cannabis factory found in Oldbury

An industrial scale cannabis factory was busted by police this morning after residents raised concerns.

Officers swooped on the industrial unit in Pearsall Drive, Oldbury, shortly before 8am today. Inside they found a full hydroponic set-up, fans, giant bulbs, and containers with rows of plants seemingly reaching maturity.

None of the operators of the drug farm were found at the premises during this morning's raid so no arrests have yet been made.

Officers have now cut off the electricity supply and the plants will be removed by the West Midlands Police force's cannabis disposal team.

Deb Edmonds, spokeswoman for the force, said: "A drugs warrant was executed at Pearsall Drive at just before 8am today.

"Officers discovered an industrial-sized cannabis factory in an industrial unit. No one was inside the unit at the time.

"The electricity has now been made safe and the cannabis disposal team will be visiting the property."

It is not yet known how many cannabis plants in total were inside the unit, nor the potential value of the plants if they had been harvested and sold on the streets.
