Motorway closed amid fears for man on bridge

A stretch of the motorway was closed this morning after a man was spotted standing over the handrail of a motorway bridge.

Emergency services were called to the M6 Toll between junctions 3 and 2, near to Bassetts Pole, at around 5.30am when officers closed part of the motorway, as well as some other roads in the area.

The man was safely brought down at around 7.15am.

Chief Inspector Neil Hobson, force incident manager for West Midlands Police, said: "We thank motorists for their understanding and patience whilst we worked to bring this matter to a safe conclusion for all involved."
