Police closed one lane of the island while the lorry was recovered.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 50s, suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital.

Staffordshire Police spokeswoman Sarah Davison said the call was received by police at 8.30am. It was eventually righted with the help of a crane.

She said a lorry had overturned and at first it was thought fluid had leaked from the vehicle.

Traffic built up from junction 11 of the M6 for Cheslyn Hay.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "We sent one ambulance and a paramedic area support officer to the scene.

"We were called at 8.27am to a lorry that had rolled over.

"A man in his 50s suffered head injuries and was taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton."
