The Midlands welterweight champion shut out William Warburton with a 60-54 points verdict at the Manchester Arena, live on Sky Sports.

Saturday's fight night came just two weeks after Eggington's gutsy display in Prizefighter, where he was eliminated in the semi-finals.

He battled valiantly before being nudged out by eventual winner Johnny Coyle, after making Johnny Garton retire in the second round of the quarter-final when his corner threw in the towel.

A tune-up against the durable Warburton was more routine, but it did represent another chance to impress promoter Eddie Hearn.

The 20-year-old opened like a house on fire from the opening bell, targeting the body with meaty hooks to leave Warburton gasping for air.

Eggington scored again in the third round with a damaging screw shot to the sternum, but the game Warburton sucked it up and carried on.

Both were trading by the fourth with Eggington rattling his opponent with a right hook on the turn, leaving him struggling to regain his senses.

Eggington caught him flush with a right hook to the mush in the last round but the stoppage wouldn't come, although he did take every round with referee Steve Gray.

The promising youngster picked up his 10th win from 12 paid outings, both of his defeats coming in a Prizefighter situation. The likes of commentator Jim Watt sang his praises live on air.
