Customers' backing for post office move

A post office, which moved into a new home last month, is already being inundated with customers and support from the community, according to local councillors.

Moxley Post Office moved from Roberts Close to Kendrick News, in Kendrick Road, last month as part of the major modernisation programme across the Post Office network.

It aims to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open-plan environments.

The move allowed the post office to extend its opening hours and allow access to services seven days a week.

Darlaston South Councillor Paul Bott has welcomed the fact that a post office has been retained in the community.

He said: "The residents had been concerned they would lose the post office when it closed in Roberts Close.

"The community are very supportive that the post office has been retained in Moxley and is now at Kendrick News."

Darlaston South Councillor Chris Bott added: "The post office in its new location has been inundated with customers.

"It's a big thank you to the owner of the shop and the community who have supported it.

"The next project will be trying to get a post box outside the shop."

There has been a shake-up in postal services in the area which included a fight to keep the pillar box in Roberts Close, Moxley, in use.

Campaigners were celebrating last week after Royal Mail bowed to public pressure and re-opened their post box.

Residents were left scratching their heads after the pillar box was taped up – and even wrote to the Queen to complain.
