Firefighters tackle grass fire near railway station in Smethwick

A grass embankment near a railway station and busy dual carriageway caught fire this afternoon.

Smoke was seen coming from a section of bank measuring more than 6,500 sqft in Smethwick.

Crews from Smethwick and Oldbury fire stations were sent to tackle the blaze close to Galton Bridge railway station.

The fire, which was on land adjacent to Telford Way, started at around 4.45pm.

The cause is yet unknown but fire crews are scaling down the incident.

Network Rail was informed of the fire but it is not thought to have caused disruption to rail services.
