Staff and students at a school named as one of the best in the country have another reason to celebrate after receiving a glowing report from Ofsted.

St Hubert's Catholic Primary School in Oldbury has been rated as 'outstanding' by inspectors after a visit at the start of March.

A total of 19 lessons were observed at the school on the Wolverhampton Road and a meeting was held with staff and parents. Inspectors also received 205 responses from pupils after a questionnaire was handed out to rate the school.

The report said: "This school insists on the very highest standards of behaviour and achievement. Pupils are exceptionally well-prepared in every way for their future lives. Teachers know what each pupil is capable of achieving in every subject and work tirelessly to ensure they do. Pupils say their teachers are 'the best of the best'.

"The school is recognised nationally for its successes, particularly in information and communication technology."

The schools last report five years ago rated it as 'good' and headteachers were subsequently told it would not require another inspection for another six years. Headteacher Clare McNally said: "We are so glad that the inspectors feel the same about our school as we do. We knew we were 'outstanding' but it was nice to see that Ofsted agrees with what we see on a day to day basis."

Earlier this year the school came eighth in the Sunday Times list of top primary schools based on excellent SATs results for the last three years.
