Up to several thousand homes were without water this morning after a faulty valve caused problems in Wolverhampton and Walsall.

The homes were without water for 45 minutes, operator Severn Trent said.

Among the properties affected when the water went off at around 8am were homes in Bentley and Willenhall as well as some in Wolverhampton.

The same faulty valve caused two pipes to burst last night and Severn Trent said it would be sending specialist teams to permanently fix the problem today.

Severn Trent spokeswoman Sarah-Jayne O'Kane apologised to customers.

She added: "We've had a problem with one of our valves that keeps water pressure under control and this led to the pressure dropping and therefore water supplies were unfortunately interrupted.

"Our teams went to deal with the issue quickly and within half an hour to 45mins, all supplies were returned.

"To make sure this doesn't happen again, we have a specialist team going to fix the valve today.

"We're really sorry for any inconvenienced this will no doubt have caused - we understand how difficult it is to not have water, especially first thing in the morning when people are trying to get ready for work and school."
