Clubbers were distraught when organisers confirmed that the iconic indie club night was to end after an 18-year run. But they are not going to let it finish without a bang. All of the 2,000 tickets originally put on sale for the final night were sold out within four days.

Organisers put another 400 up for grabs, but those were snapped up within four minutes.

The final night was proving so popular that organisers decided to put on another, penultimate Blast Off tonight as well for all the fans who could not get tickets.

It is claimed that Blast Off, which has had almost a million customers since 1996, is second in the world only to Ibiza's legendary Manumission in terms of people attending a club night.

Blast Off numbers 916 and 917 have been carefully planned and Dave Travis, the club night's promoter, said there are numerous tricks up the sleeve of the DJs.

The club has seen nearly a million people pass through the doors in its 18-year reign as the definitive place to go for music lovers.
