Opening of new Wolverhampton primary school library after fire

Published

A new library has opened at a primary school in Wolverhampton after its previous one was destroyed by fire.

Elston Hall Primary School held a special opening ceremony for the new library.

Its reopening coincides with World Book Day, which takes place on Thursday. Staff at the school, in Stafford Road, Fordhouses, are running a series of events all week, culminating in a fancy dress party on Friday.

Lisa Lavill, a member of staff at the school said: "It's fantastic for the children. With no library on site, the pupils struggled to find resources to help with their studies.

"There are local public libraries but it can be really difficult for pupils to find time to visit them with all their extra curricular activities outside school hours. It was hard to fit it in even though most pupils really wanted to.

It really affected their chances to extend their reading and research for school work."

Storyteller John Edgar visited the school yesterday.

The old library was damaged in a suspected arson attack.
