The experienced nurses, who will start at Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust on Monday, are to be supplied by the University Hospital of North Staffordshire on a three-month term.

The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust is also offering 15 beds to accommodate emergency patients from South Staffordshire.

The announcement was made during an extraordinary meeting of the Trust Special Administrator Board at Stafford Hospital today.

Hospital bosses said the plan, which was accepted by the TSA, means the Trust can avoid having to reduce beds and further restrict A&E opening hours for the time being.
