Chance to buy plots of land in Sandwell

A council is selling off vacant plots of land near to homes and businesses to save maintenance costs and raise funds for other projects.

Sandwell Council hopes residents and businesses looking to expand their premises will buy the sections of land.

The scheme allows people interested in taking the plots to get in touch with the authority and see if a deal can be reached.

They will be given an in-principal decision within 15 working days.

People wanting to buy the land will also get the chance to discuss developments planned for the parcels of land.

Bosses from the authority hope residents and traders wanting to extend their homes, gardens or shops will take up the option.

Selling off the land will cut maintenance costs for the authority. And, while the size of each parcel of land varies, officials confirmed all were small areas which were not suitable for significant developments. Cash from the sale will be used to improve parks across the borough.

Cabinet member for jobs and economy Councillor Ian Jones said the scheme also aimed to improve the look of the area.

"We are keen to hear from people who are interested in buying small, vacant pieces of land across the Sandwell area," he said. "It is a win-win situation."
