Wolves legend Steve Bull surprises super fan at wedding as first match missed for 37 years

The stunned 57-year-old, who last missed a match at Molineux in 1976, was kept up to date with Saturday's 1-1 draw against Coventry through text messages from friends during the marriage celebrations at Haughley Park Barn in Stowmarket, Suffolk and said he couldn't believe it when Bully turned up.

"It came like a bolt out of the blue. Lots of pictures were being taken and I was moving around the crowd. Then this guy with his back to me turned to face me and I realised that it was the legend himself," he revealed.

"It was one of the biggest surprises of my life. I thought I was seeing things.

"Bully handed me a shirt signed by the team and a programme for the match with Coventry that I had just missed with his signature on it.

"That really was the icing on the wedding cake as far as I was concerned."

Mr Abbott, who has a 360-mile round trip from his home in Ipswich to watch Wolves play, said Bully stayed for a beer and the pair 'chatted about the old days for what seemed like a couple of hours'.

He added: "It was the perfect end to a lovely day.

"The only thing missing was a Wolves win."

Mr Abbott started supporting the team as a child living in London in the 1960s during the days of Derek Dougan and Dave Wagstaffe.

His step-daughter Sarah, who married sweetheart Jonno Liddle, had given special permission for Bully to attend the reception after getting a phone call 24 hours before her match of the day from SkyBet, the sponsors of the Football League who organised his appearance.

She kept details of the last minute addition to the guest list secret from Mr Abbott who is due back at Molineux for tomorrow night's clash with Oldham Athletic.
