A lorry carrying radioactive materials crashed on the M6 today, causing two miles of tailbacks.
Two lanes of the M6 between junction 10a for the M54 and 11 for Cannock had to be closed after the smash between the HGV and a car southbound at around 8.45am.
The exit slip road to Hilton Park Services had also been closed.
Highways Agency spokeswoman Pragati Baddhan said none of the radioactive load had spilled onto the carriageway.
Fire crews from Cannock and Bloxwich were sent to the scene to check the area was safe. All lanes have now reopened.
Staffordshire Police spokeswoman Sarah Davison said: “We were called at 8.40am to a multi-vehicle smash.
“It was reported to us that the HGV was carrying a hazardous load.”
