Memories of childhood board games are being stirred for visitors to a new exhibition.

The display at the Museum of Cannock Chase in Hednesford features games going back to the 1920s. The exhibition complements a permanent toy show at the Valley Road venue.

The touring display features board games based on popular television sitcoms from the 1970s, including On The Buses and Dad's Army. It also has advertisements for popular games by Waddingtons and Spears.

Among the older exhibits are parts from The Wonderful Game of Oz, from the 1930s, a 50-year-old Lotto game and Sooty Saves Sixpence from the 1960s.

Museum manager Lee Bellingham, whose own Sindy dolls are in the permanent exhibition, said children's toys were an instant trigger for nostalgia.

The main display, situated upstairs, contains everything from vintage sports equipment, such as old ice skates and swimming costumes, to building blocks.

She said: "We get different generations coming in sometimes looking at the same toy but from different eras. For example we've got old yo-yos made of wood, then metal models, to the modern plastic ones."

The Games We Played exhibition will run until October 11.
