Police given more time to speak to three arrested in connection with Smethwick death

Police have been granted further time to speak to three people arrested in connection with the death of man found collapsed in Smethwick.

Emergency services were called to Brook Street just after midnight on Thursday after a 52-year-old was found with serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

Police have today named him as Barry Shillam from Smethwick. Specialist family liaison officers are continuing to support his relatives at this very difficult time.

Five people who are believed to be known to the victim were arrested on suspicion of murder and a 35-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl have now been released without charge. Two men aged 40 and 46 and a 39-year-old woman remain in custody.
