Showdown talks over plan to demolish Dudley Hippodrome

Campaigners are heading for showdown talks with council chiefs tonight demanding answers over the demolition of Dudley Hippodrome.

They will plead for a further reprieve for the landmark theatre despite Dudley Council leader Councillor David Sparks confirming it would be bulldozed.

The Friends of Dudley Hippodrome said they would like to submit a revised business plan. The group's existing plan to run the Castle Hill venue was deemed 'unviable' last week.

Campaigners will tonight meet with Phil Coyne, the council's assistant director for economic regeneration and transportation. Group chairman Geoff Fitzpatrick said: "Why not give us the opportunity to look at it again. Just because it's unviable now doesn't mean it can't be in the future."
