Workers at the airline are striking in a row over wages and conditions.

Lufthansa's 6.10am flight from Birmingham Airport to Frankfurt and 7.20am flight to Munich were among those affected.

Arrivals cancelled included the Dusseldorf flight, which was due to land in Birmingham at 7.40am, and a Frankfurt flight, which was due to land in Birmingham at 8.35am.

"A number of flights to Germany have been cancelled today due to industrial action," said Birmingham Airport spokeswoman Justine Howl.

"We think it may be something to do with baggage handlers. Our advice to passengers travelling to Germany is to keep an eye on our website and check with their airline to see if they have been affected."

The Verdi union called on workers at Lufthansa to stage a five-hour walkout. It wants a 5.2 per cent increase in wages for employees at several Lufthansa divisions.
