Boy, 12, airlifted after breaking ankle in Wolverhampton hockey match

A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after suffering a broken ankle during a hockey match at Wolverhampton Grammar School.

He was playing for Yardley against Old Wulfrunians when the incident happened at 1.20pm on Saturday.

He was taken to New Cross Hospital. The match was on an all-weather pitch between the two clubs’ “badgers” teams, which match up adults and youngsters.

It comes as a man in his early 20s was airlifted to hospital with a fractured ankle after getting injured during a football match in Nuneaton at 11am yesterday.
