Pedestrian dies after being hit by lorry on busy Staffordshire road

Update: A man has died after being hit by a lorry in Staffordshire.

The busy A5 in Staffordshire was closed in both directions for several hours.

Police blocked off the road from the Longford island at Cannock and the A34 junction in Bridgtown following the accident at 4.30am, near the B&Q store.

Inspector Paul Prenter, of Staffordshire Police, said: “A male pedestrian was hit by a lorry and a full forensics team was sent to the scene."

Officers later confirmed the 43-year-old man, who lived locally, had died.

The road was closed for six hours. The lorry driver, a man in his 60s from Cheshire, was not hurt.
